Machineart Moto MudSling

The Machineart Moto MudSling is a direct replacement for the standard R1200GS rear shock mud guard. It is much larger and when fitted will protect the rear shock, the battery and the ECU from the usual gunk chucked up from the road, trail or, in our case, field!

It was super simple to install taking at most 20 minutes. The hardest part of the job was removing the 3 locktited bolts holding the original guard in place. Fitting the Mudsling is a case of putting 2 bolts in the top under the seat and then cable tying on the sides. The final result is excellent. It looks like a factory fit option and matches the style of the bike perfectly.

In use, the MudSling is even better. I spent a while riding round a muddy field to see what would happen. The MudSling got dirty! That’s OK though because everything behind it stayed as clean as was before I arrived! Here are some comparison shots.

First off… my bike with the MudSling fitted.

Next up, Leigh’s bike with the standard BMW guard.

You can really see a difference in the level of protection it offers. After just an hour playing, I can honestly say that the MudSling is a likely contender for the “Highly Recommended” seal of approval. Aidy is planning on giving it a thorough test to see if it clogs up when it gets REALLY muddy so we may have an update at some point!

If you want to get one for yourself, they are available over on Nippy Norman’s … have any questions about it? Let us know in the comments!

Shane Marriott

Shane has a hunger for adventure that neither his wallet, free time nor other-half will support. Ever the optimist, after riding a Suzuki Bandit 600 for a few years and completing a Level 1 Advanced course at the "World of BMW" school in Wales he has put his money where is mouth is and invested in a brand new, fully spec'd BMW R1200GS Adventure ("30 Years GS" version). It is planned that this awesome machine will take him round Iceland, help him win the HUMM event and get safely to the beer festival in Germany! So; is Shane ready for the Adventure? I think we need to ask if the Adventure is ready for him?
